So after I made the decision to start my own consulting firm, the first step was to come up with a name that reflects the business philosophy of my company…well, my brand.
Branding is a loaded topic that I will reserve for another post. In short, Harry Beckwith says it best (he’s a bestselling author of the book, “The Invisible Touch: the four keys to modern marketing”-I highly recommend it); he says, your business is your brand. Period.
It is how and what you deliver to your customers, what your company represents…spend some time to figure this out, then translate it into your business culture, your processes, your logo, your image and most of all, your product or service.
I’m going to focus on one aspect of branding…your company’s logo and how it portrays the culture of our company. So, here’s how the Reality Business Consulting logo came to fruition…
What I found in the workforce was that people could not always operate at a level of professionalism, specifically, keeping the objectives of the company on the forefront. Too often, individuals let their personalities and egos get in the way and so, whenever discussions arose, people would be apprehensive to share their true thoughts for whatever reason (sucking up to the “boss”, group-think, etc). In the end, a strategy, project or task is not truly vetted, the company’s goals are compromised for personal agenda’s…it’s not “real”.
As you might imagine, I was not one of the group-thinkers. I am honest, truthful and candid, yet objective and compassionate. I think logically but I am driven by passion (I owe that description to my brother!). Here is Reality Business Consulting’s brand, how my clients see me and how I want potential clients to see me:
1. Our Name – At Reality Consulting, we are real, honest, truthful, passionate and of course, we are a business consulting company.
2. The Slanted “R” – Whenever we work with a client, we look at their business from a different slant.
3. The 3-Squares – Looking at any strategy, project, task, or problem, we always look for a way to integrate people, process and technology to maximize results. Each square represents each of these components.
4. Tag-Line – Real people. Real questions. Real answers. Wraps up how we conduct business.
If you are starting out and you are thinking of a name for your company (or even a new product), think about your brand. What will your company or product represent? What will your customers experience working with you or using your product?
I promote a culture within our team to always remember the four points above. Everytime we look at our logo, we hand out business cards or markeitng collateral, we remember this is how we do business, this is part of our brand.
This is what Reality Business Consulting is all about.
Be your brand. Be Real.
