Enterprise Toronto Social Media Summit

On June 19th I attended the morning portion of Enterprise Toronto’s Social Marketing Summit at the Scarborough Civic Centre.  A great itinerary put together by Enterprise Toronto.

I was amazed at the turnout and energy for the morning session. The Council Chamber was jam packed and there were people sitting in the aisles and standing at the back to catch some tips they could use to drive more customers their way.  It was clearly a needed and valuable topic that small businesses are always seeking help and guidance with when they creating their small business marketing plan.

The morning covered topics on engagement marketing, LinkedIn and Facebook for business and how these marketing tools could help you uncover potential customers generate sales.  The presenters offered many great tips and Lisa from Constant Contact reminded me of three simple ways to try and attract clients:

  1. Wow them.
  2. Connect with them.
  3. Engage with them.

Simple enough but definitely involves a lot of hard work and perseverance to achieve.

In my experience, many of these social media tools could be used to drive more business but you should definitely consider who your market is and whether they would use these tools before spending a lot of time and energy using these applications.  There are so many social media channels, so spend some time to understand the right channel for your target market.   If these marketing tools are not showing you a good ROI then consider using another marketing channel.

The clearer you define your target market, the more time and money you are going to save. All of your marketing activity will be geared toward this target market. If your target market is off, then your results will be as well.

Be real. Grow your business.
